Coming Events

March 29 - 11:16AM

  1. We have just finished casting all of our Sprouts for the play! The Elementary/Middle kids helped to pick out the kids' parts. They help me co-produce the play so they feel completely invested in their performance. You will receive the list of the Sprouts parts in your child's folder. If your child has any lines, a copy of those lines will also be attached. We try to make a child's first time on stage in a play easy and fun, so we do not pressure most of them with having to speak lines. Only a couple of children will have lines, and those will be limited to one or two lines. The Sprouts will be viewing the movie a few times so they can understand the timing of their parts and what they will need to do. Once we get closer to the date, we will practice in the church next door. Remember that you are responsible for your child's costume, although we have a professional costume designer mom in our midst and we are trying to figure out how she can help us out. More info on that soon. In the meantime, make sure you view the movie with your child and also go online to grab screen shots of what your child's costume should look like. I am always available to answer questions if you have any. Please feel free to call the school or email me with your questions.

  2. I have received some of our Toy Fair Fundraiser educational toy picks. I have decided that on nice days, the Elementary/Middle kids will man a table outside during drop offs and pick ups to sell the items as they come in. I don't have much storage space and I think it will be good practice for them to market the items and work with money. So far I have received some quality wooden puzzles in 100 piece packs. The company sells more than what I bought in smaller and larger piece sets, and we are happy to take orders if we don't have what you are looking for. We also have a number of the "Opoly" games, which are takeoffs from Monopoly. There is Cat-opoly, Horse-opoly, etc. They all look so fun to play! This company, too, can take orders on games we may not have in our small stock. We will wait for a really nice day before setting up a table, but get ready to have fun shopping! I will be receiving other Toy Fair picks in the next couple of weeks, so more will come out as the days warm up!

  3. Our Seeds of Wonder Nature Camp info will be coming out next week also! Watch your child's folder for that information. It's going to be a summer of fun learning and play!

  4. Many new Community Service projects will be available this spring so those of you who signed up to complete your Community Service hours can do so. I will be making a list of the many things we need done this spring before school ends. Stay tuned for that!

  5. Don't forget also to mark your calendars for our Open House on Saturday, June 1st! All staff is required to attend that day. Remind friends and family to mark the day too so they can join you! It is a fun, family day from 11 to 3. We will have a Silent Auction, a BBQ potluck lunch, bouncy house, games for kids, goat grooming and hopefully some music for all!

Holiday Parties, Reminders

December 6 - 1:21PM

Good afternoon,

After my last email, I see that some parents signed up for I forgot to add that in order to get texts about snow delays, etc., you need to sign up under "All Students" on the site, so if you did not do that, please go back in and get on that list. It is from that list that I text about closings and delays.

On December 19th and 20th, we will have little holiday parties in our classrooms. We welcome anyone sending in treats for the classes! The Seedlings and Sprouts do not exchange presents, but the Elementary kids have a present exchange. For that, please send in a gift that will be suitable for either gender. The limit for gifts is $15. You can send it in wrapped, but with no name on it - we do a little game to exchange the gifts. Please send in your gift no later than Monday, the 18th. The Elementary party will be on Wednesday, the 20th.

If you have any questions, let me know. Such a busy month!!

Have a good evening, Miss Deb

Baby It's Cold Outside!

December 6 - 1:20PM

Good afternoon everyone!

I see on the weather reports that the temperature is going to begin dropping sometime this week and next week will be in the 30's. This is a good time to remind you all to make sure to send hats, gloves, warm footwear and winter jackets with your child on a daily basis now. Our long autumn weather is soon leaving us and we require all children to be properly dressed for the outside since we spend a good amount of time in the outdoors here at FOG. If the days warm up, we don't need to put them on, but we need to have them with each child every day. Thank you for your cooperation!

I would like to thank Martina Ruocco, E.J.'s mom, for crocheting two sets of hats and gloves that have our initials, FOG, crocheted into them for us to use as spares in case a child comes without. If for some reason your child goes home with our new spares, please make sure they come back to school the next time your child attends. Better yet, once you get them into the warm car, return the spares to the teachers outside so we can make sure these wonderful spares stay with us! Nice way to use your Community Service hours, Martina! We thank you very much!

Also, I hear small hints of snow swirling around soon, so now is also a good time to remind all of you that when the snow or ice flies, make sure you check your emails or phones for school delays or closings. I notify everyone by email first, then I put a notice on WSUS in their Delays and Cancellations spot online, and finally, if you sign up with, you will receive a text message on your phone. If you have not signed up on Remind yet and wish to receive texts, make sure you do so before the snow flies!

I usually post any delays or cancellations by 6:30 am. I make my decision based upon many factors including general weather for the day, road conditions in the area, especially in higher elevations, and the decisions of many local school districts as a whole. I do not always follow the Vernon Schools' decisions, so please do not go by their announcements.

We are sending home the Holiday Shop flyers today along with envelopes you can use to put money in for your child to spend on those days. Please make sure your child's name is on the envelope if it is not already on there when returning the envelope to school. Thanks to Victoria for setting this up!

Have a good day! Miss Deb
